Small oblong 4to, 112pp. Black wraps in dustwrapper, Obi and acetate wrapper. Numerous Black & White plates. Text in Japanese and English. Probably the nicest copy you're ever going to see, it's certainly the nicest I've ever had im my hands. Has 2 photographs inside - one is of the cover, and one is one of the spreads - they look to be from the time, I assume they may have been press photographs but I'm not sure.
Second book by Yoshida who lived in Harlem in the sixties and seventies with her (african american) husband and child. The book is a visual portrait of Harlem at the time- a wold which Yoshida felt was invisible in Japan at the time. The book captures street scenes, the life of her child, her friends and some pretty important events- the funeral of Malcolm X, marches, panther meetings, anti vietnam protests along with jazz faces such as Coltrane, Gillespie, David, Ornette Coleman. A nice document of Harlem during a pivotal moment in history. Included in the exhibition Soul of a Nation: Art in the age of Black Power.
