Batshit crazy book on a batshit crazy phenomenon. Suburban and home counties Jazz Funkateers are probably the last unexplored youth tribe, probably because by traditional definitions it was, and still is phenomenally uncool. The only thing is – it isn’t really, lots of big names in dance music made their start there, and despite it resembling a cross between a club 18-30 holiday and light entertainment at a holiday camp there is quite a lot going on. The book was an inside job, so it really is representative of what was happening, and is probably one of the funniest books I’ve seen. Very much Martin Parr’s Britain.
