This is London in the mid nineties, and honestly – it’s the best street photography book you’re ever going to see. Bond is a funny one, he went to Goldsmiths and graduated as part of the YBA crowd, wrote that book Lacan at the Scene, did bits for the Face and seemed to be almost everywhere – it’s pretty complicated. Anyway, back to the book – looking at it from today it’s very analog, quite literally streets, newsagents, nightclubs i.e. everyday life. I’m not sure exactly what it is he’s trying to document but it’s messy, ambiguous and a really rich piece of work. it’s also f***ing massive and a lot of people’s favourite book.
