Jawdroppingly beautiful. According to Parr in the photobook a history vol.1: ‘ ‘Paris’ is remarkable for two things, its distinctive color palette, and Kimura’s view which teeters between conventional travel photographer and something much more original. Kimura appears to have discovered a residue of Atget’s Paris’his Paris like Atget’s, is a nostalgic one, a city of crumbling textures and decaying structures, autumnal mist and winter gloom. At times Kimura certainly photographs Paris as if the city were in terminal decay rather than, as so many see it, an open-air museum with some artfully distressed surfaces.’ Beautiful early colour photography shot in 1954, 1955 and 1960. A real landmark.
