Stunning work from former Avedon assistant Ohara. In this- his first book, he presents around 500 uniform facial portraits taken on the streets of NYC in the sixties. The work was presented at MOMA in 1974, and contributed to his receipt of the Guggenheim fellowship. Cited in The Photobook A History, vol 1. The Open Book and 802 photo books from the M.+M. Auer collection, Ohara’s first book is considered an extremely important work in the history of 20th century photography and one can see his influence in contemporary works from Walter Pfeiffer, Versluis and Uyttenbroek and countless others.
