Nest really changed the game as far as interiors were concerned, and to be honest there’s still nothing that’s quite like it. It’s also solidly from the print era, and the art direction is insane – paperstocks, die cuts, inserts and the rest that could have an essay on their own. The basic premise was that “..an igloo, a prison cell or a child’s attic room (adorned with Farrah Fawcett posters) could be as compelling as a room by a famous designer.” and the magazine really lived by that philosophy. With visual and written contributions by Tina Barney, Michael Cunningham, Lydia Davis, Barbara Gallucci, Nan Goldin, Matt Groening, Rem Koolhaas, Catherine Opie, Stephen Sondheim, Amy Sedaris, Matthew Stadler, Candida Höfer, David Seidner, Horst P. Horst, Martin Parr, Antoine Bootz, and Jason Schmidt.
