Edition : First / New York / Bloomingdales / 1977 / Hardcover. / VG+ Small 4to. 28pp. Numerous Colour plates. Specially bound hardcover issue. Unnacountably scarce both institutionally and privately with less than 10 copies surfacing of the regular softcover issue in the last decade. This is something I didn’t know existed – a specially bound hardcover issue. Bloomingdales did produce a friends and family version of Sighs and Whispers so I would have to assume this is the same.
Just one year after Bloomingdales comissioned Bourdin for the incredible ‘Sighs & Whispers’, they comissioned Hamilton to shoot ‘Intimacies’, feeling that after the controversy of ‘sighs’, something softer was required. Hamilton delivers probably his best work- the colour work is phenomenal, with all of the hallmarks of ‘good’ Hamilton, and none of the pitfalls of his later work. Quite why it is so rare is unknown, it is possible that it was withdrawn before publication as the only other 2 copies I have ever seen have been for review.
