Comme’s most famous, and successful collaboration. “Rather than the usual objects of desire, envy, or aspiration commonly seen in fashion ads, Sherman created a series of repellant and pitiable caricatures to model Kawakubo’s clothing. The resulting photographs are a jarring deconstruction of fashion imagery, and of fashion itself, the usually unspoken conflicts and contradictions inherent to the industry. The resulting campaign was more like mail art than advertising, but proved to be brilliant marketing nonetheless and has become the template for a flood of art-fashion collaborations in the years since.”
