Varda described her travelogue of the Côte d’Azur as the cousin of her 1958 short film Du Cote de la Cote, which was released three years earlier. WIth a nod to Marker's petit planete series, Varda's book combines film stills, photographs, texts and ephemera to weave a portrait of the both the material and psychological conditions that make up our notion of place.
